The credit union’s only on-campus branch renewed for 10 years
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 16, 2019 – Community First Credit Union announces it has signed a long-term lease agreement to continue its branch on the campus of the University of North Florida (UNF). Community First and the university executed the 10-year lease deal in September.
The UNF branch, located in the John A. Delaney Student Union, has been on campus formally for the last 10 years and the credit union served the staff, faculty and students for many years in various capacities before the formal lease agreement was in place. The branch is the only full-service financial center at UNF and is available to everyone on campus.
Community First has a longtime dedication to education. The credit union was founded by teachers and administrators and later became known as Educational Community Credit Union. While the credit union has expanded to serve anyone in any profession in the seven-county region, Community First has never lost sight of its roots in education.
“We are thrilled to continue our service to UNF staff and students,” said John Hirabayashi, CEO and president of Community First. “While this branch is unique in our network, it provides vital on-campus financial services to our members.”
The UNF branch of Community First is staffed by three staff members and is 1,019 square feet. It serves more than 3,500 current members with financial services and products.
“Community First is a strong partner to UNF,” President David Szymanski said. “We are grateful for the services they offer our campus community, including providing tips and education to our students on how to manage money and prepare for future success.”
Community First also has a philanthropic relationship with the university that includes endowed scholarships in the College of Education and Human Services and support for UNF’s new Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Downtown Jacksonville.
