Former Edgewood Bakery building to be transformed into the credit union’s most unique community branch

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., October 27, 2025 - Community First Credit Union, celebrating 90 years of service to North Florida, announces it has completed design work on its Murray Hill Branch, which is the renovation and reconfiguration of the former Edgewood Bakery. Community First’s construction and engineering team has been doing initial site work to build the branch, which is like no other branch in its network. Community First released full exterior drawings and renderings to the community on Monday after unveiling them to attendees at the Murray Hill-O-Ween event on Saturday.

“Community First is proud to be part of this unique community and retail corridor,” said President and CEO Sam Inman. “It is important for us to continue to engage the greater Murray Hill neighborhood in our renovation progress as we build a financial branch that is innovative, creative and unique to their community.”

Renderings and drawings show a front lawn/social area that will include a food feature, a community room and unique architecture features not normally seen at other Community First branches. Renovations can take longer than new construction, but Community First anticipates the branch to be complete in late 2026.

The floorplan is configured inside the existing building structure on one floor and includes a refreshed and redesigned parking lot, in addition to a drive-thru and full exterior updates. As in all its branches, its interior will feature a mural depicting historical photos of the neighborhood.

“We are very passionate about preserving the history of this building in the Murray Hill neighborhood,” Inman continued. “Our team has spent considerable time being thoughtful about our design, how we serve this neighborhood and the critical nature of this location to the overall revitalization of the area.”

Community First, founded and based in Jacksonville, intends to honor the legacy of the Edgewood Bakery in several ways, while providing a modern and community-centered credit union experience. Community First purchased the Murray Hill location at Edgewood Avenue and Post Street in 2024. The bakery closed in 2016, and the building has been vacant since. TTV Architects designed the branch, Auld & White Constructors is the building contractor, NAI Hallmark is the development partner and Kimley Horn is performing civil engineering for the branch.
