What benefits do Community First youth checking accounts offer?

These are the benefits of opening a youth account for your teen:

  • The parent or guardian has joint ownership, which gives you access and oversight of spending.
  • The youth checking account will be a SureBalance account, which offers overdraft protection. You can help your teen learn financial responsibility without worry of overdrafts and fees.
  • You can enroll in online banking for easy access to your teen's account.
  • The account comes with a debit card which gives your teen some freedom, without the added worry of overspending.
What is the Save My Change program, and how do I enroll?

The Save My Change program5 allows you or your teen to save every time you swipe your debit card. When you enroll, we automatically round up your debit card purchase to the nearest whole dollar amount and put the change in the savings account of your choice. This is a great tool offered on youth accounts (and all checking accounts), and can teach 13 to 17-year-olds to save.

Essentially, Save My Change is the equivalent of a change jar for your debit card. You can easily enroll by opting into Save My Change in Online or Mobile Banking.

Log into Online Banking or our Mobile Banking app.

  • Navigate to the menu and select Account Management
  • Click or tap Save My Change and enroll

That’s it. Now, you'll save every time you swipe the debit card for your enrolled Checking account. Don’t forget to log back in and track your progress in Online or Mobile Banking.
